Bolivia's Gateway into the Amazon
Spend your days relaxing in hammocks or ride a riverboat into your rainforest adventure, either way Rurrenabaque is a picturesque town set in fabulous green hills on the banks of the Río Beni. The locals of "Rurre" as the town is known, appreciate the burnt orange sunsets, mesmerizing fogs, verdant trees, and peaceful sounds of the rainforest.
Rurre attracts many backpackers who fill the restaurants, cafés and hotels on their way into the Amazon. Walking the town itself is a wonderful experience. The hotels almost all have hammocks, there are plenty of fun bars and tasty restaurants, the market is lively, and there is even a local swimming pool and spa. Unlike most Bolivian towns, the restaurants and businesses in Rurre are not centered around the plaza (2 de Febrero), but are clustered on a few blocks north along Calle Vaca Diez and Santa Cruz. Both of the town's markets are north of the estuary that divides the town in half. Across the river is San Buenaventura, which you can reach by passenger boat.
The town is less than three hours from the jungle. Within the jungle you will encounter the most varied wildlife in the country. The area around Rurrenabaque offers visitors the greatest opportunity to see exotic and rare flora and fauna. Watch for the Amazonian river dolphin, a unique endangered animal that can turn its skin color from grey to bright pink. Other animal life includes caiman, fish, snakes, monkeys, turtles, armadillos, butterflies, deer, sloths, squirrels, anacondas, spectacled bear, and tapirs. Some of these species are nocturnal and are unlikely to be spotted on day trips. Wildlife viewing is not solely a river-based activity around Rurrenabaque. There are also horseback expeditions and treks on foot.
There are two major parks within a day's journey of Rurrenabaque: Parque Nacional Madidi across the Río Beni and the Pilón Biosphere Reserve on the road to San Borja. Another day's trip along the Beni River will bring you to the isolated Isiboro Securé National Park.
All of this sound amazing? Book your flight from La Paz today, or take a bus from Villa Fátima.

How can my wife's brother come to America?
My wife who just recieved her green card from America would like to have her youngest brother come out and visit her for 2 weeks. Can anyone tell me what we can do in order to request him to visit us? I do not believe he can come here on his own without a request or a work visa, but I am not sure. He lives in Bolivia. Is there a website for information on this? Please if possible be as detailed as you can in your answers. Thank you all in advance for your help.
I am almost certain that in order for him to come to America, regardless of how long it is, he is going to need a Visa. A passport will not help him. This is what I have been told. Sorry I did not post this earlier.
Your wife's brother can apply for a tourist visa, if he actually intends to only visit for two weeks and then go home. If he intends to stay or work in the US, he will not get a visa. Here is the US embassy La Paz's information on how to apply for a tourist visa:
